During the holy month of Shravan, thousands of devotees visit temples to offer prayers. But in 2020 — the year of the pandemic — safety was just as important as devotion.
Last Monday, members of Spandan Foundation noticed that many devotees at Jubuṭia Japeswar Shiva Temple were offering prayers without wearing masks. Deeply concerned for everyone’s safety, our team decided to return the following Monday with a simple yet impactful mission — to encourage awareness and distribute masks.
😷 A Morning Dedicated to Safety and Care
Early in the morning on 3rd August 2020, Spandan Foundation members reached the temple premises. As devotees arrived without masks, our team gently handed them masks and helped them wear them properly.
Little children present at the temple for the Shravan rituals were also guided to sanitize their hands, after which they were given masks to ensure their safety.
Since the day was also Raksha Bandhan, our volunteers tied rakhis on the children’s wrists — a gesture symbolizing care, protection, and love.
They were also gifted packets of biscuits, bringing smiles to their faces.
🚌 Awareness Beyond the Temple Grounds
After completing the mask-awareness drive at the temple, the team extended the initiative to nearby areas:
- Jubuṭia Bus Stand
- Kirnahar Market
- Kirnahar Adivasi Para
In these areas too, masks, soaps, and biscuits were distributed to promote hygiene and safety among the local people.
This entire campaign was carried out with permission from the local administration, ensuring that all guidelines were followed responsibly.
